Frequently Asked Questions
What is Sativa?
Uplifting. Can cause creativity. May cause motivation, get ready to move, depending on the strain. Varying levels of THC.
Can be used for nighttime for people with adverse effects. Typically contains higher THC levels and lower CBD, resulting in “mind-based effects”.
The Sativa plant can grow up to 20 feet tall and very wide if it is in the right growing conditions and has a growth cycle of 10-16 weeks depending on the strain. The leaves are a lighter green, with longer and more narrow leaves than the Indica plant. The Sativa plant is thought to have originated from the Himalayan Region.
Examples of sativa strains at our cannabis store in Muskoka: Ultra Sour, Blue Dream, Pineapple Express
What is Indica?
Ever hear of the strain of Hindu Kush? The Indica plant is thought to have originated from the Hindu Kush region in India, where they first grew the plants for its trichomes to make hash. The Indica plant was also used for a variety of resources as well as trade back in the day. The plant itself will grow to be about 6 feet tall (and taller) and can get pretty wide if you take care of it. The leaves can be a darker green and are normally a bit wider than the Sativa plant and the Indica plant generally has a shorted growth cycle compared to its sister.

What is a Hybrid?
Did you know that almost all cannabis plants are actually considered Hybrids. It has been found that over time, growers have altered many of the plants and strains genetics, for various reasons; such as to produce a higher THC content, enhance flavour, create shorter growth cycle etc. Hybrid plant/s are a combination of various strains that have been bred together by growers. Which offers a variety of options to choose from, like:
CBD Dominant / leaning
Sativa Dominant /leaning
Indica Dominant/ leaning
ETC.
Hybrid strains are great when one is looking to purchase in larger formats because the strains generally function as an all day strain.
Wild Species, Land Race Strains:
The original wild species which are native to their region’s, naturally growing cannabis strains, are referred to as Wild Species. Landrace or Land Race strains were selected from the Wild Species by a farmer and or community (about 10,000 years ago), handpicked and selected for domestic use.
Land Race strains evolved to most effectively thrive in their local microclimates. These strains form the genetic framework for modern/ domesticated cannabis strains, resulting in different morphological characteristics / effects and taste. They have also not been mixed or bred with any other strain, keeping their original genetics.
Examples of Landrace strains to keep an eye out for:
Hindu Kush, G-13, Mazar, Acapulco Gold, Sour Diesel, Maui Wowie, Afghani and one of the most sought after and oldest strains is Malawi Gold
Classic Strains:
Isolated Cannabinoids:
Fun fact: There are many other plants that we consume every day that have cannabinoids in them that are similar to cannabis. Like: Dark chocolate, whole peppercorns and flax seed just to name a few.

CBN (Cannabinol):
CBG (Cannabigerol):
THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol):
Our store has a wide variety of THC ranges to choose from.
CBD (Cannabidiol):
CBD is considered to be non-intoxicating and not overly psychoactive. Research has shown though that it can have an effect on your mind and body. It has been found that CBD works best when taken with a very low dose of THC, as THC will help carry the CBD to your appropriate internal receptors. CBD has been found to increase our own endogenous cannabinoids within us. As well, it could help reduce the high if you have taken too much THC.
When taking CBD, keep in mind that for it to work at its full potential you have to take it daily and the full effects are usually not felt right away, it normally takes about 1 to 2 weeks. Journaling is a great way to keep track of using CBD and how it makes you feel. If you need help with CBD visit us at our cannabis store in Port Sydney and we will be happy to help in a safe and comfortable environment.

*TIP: Write a diary:) The only way to know how cannabis will affect you is to consume a small amount and note the effects.
How to Tell if your Flowers are Top Quality:
Trichome Coverage :
Trichomes aka crystals contain cannabinoids, terpenes and much more. They are what makes your bud sticky.
Well-Trimmed :
A well-trimmed bud should not have extra leaves or stems. The best trimming job is usually done by hand and with a careful eye. You want to have the bigger leaves trimmed, and the bud undamaged during the process.
Feel :
How does your bud bust open, a well-cured bud should bounce back like memory foam. It should feel a little sticky, and not feel dry.
Colour:
Cannabis can come in a variety of colours, all depends on the strain of phenotype of the plant. Colours are usually brought out in the plant during the growing cycle, they can be purple, pink, blue, etc. Pistols, sugar leaves and fan leaves usually hold the most colours in the cannabis plants.
Smell:
Cannabis should have a fresh smell that you can detect easily. Each strain will have its own bouquet or different terpene profile. You do not want your bud to smell of hay or like a dry basement as those are smells of mold or chemicals that say, do not consume me, I have not been brought to my full potential.
Taste:
Good cannabis should taste fresh, here are some of the flavours found in the strains that we carry.
Berry, Chemical, Earthy, Fruity, Menthol, Skunky, Sweet, Woody, Cheesy, Citrus, diesel, nutty, pungent, spicy, herbal, tropical, Floral.
Ash Burn:
Why is the colour of your ash important? Well, when it burns black, it could be telling you that there may be chemicals that were not flushed out of the plant properly during the growth cycle or that you are not using the best rolling papers. If you coughing a lot and your throat is burning, that’s another thing to keep in mind, your body is telling you that its maybe not the best green.
Hashish In a Nutshell:
Hashish began its worldwide spread in the 10th century, it was shared by Indian traders as a commodity. From here the Europeans got introduced to hash in the 18th century. In the 20th century, Morocco became the hash capital of the world.
Moroccan hash is renowned for its quality to this day. Afghanistan is a well-known producer of tasty hash. Today with the legalization increasing in countries such as Canada and the US are becoming better known for their hash production.
Hash and Related Products:
Bubble Hash:
The buds of the cannabis plant are dried, then passed through ice and pressed to make bubble hash, this is probably the most common way to make hash.
Kief:
Kief is the cannabis particles (the crystals) that fall off the plant during any type of movement like what you find at the bottom of a grinder.
Sift:
The refinement of kief, more particles are separated, it is put through a very fine sift screen(almost like flour through a sifter) the resin heads become separated from the Keif and more quality resin heads are captured.
